Aliens From Outer Space Expose Leaks In Email Marketing!
Are y’all having a problem with your email marketing and getting your emails read and opened?
If you have a list of any size, it can be a bit difficult to get your emails opened when you are starting out. First of all you should use an email service. I use aweber.
They are cool. They get it delivered.
Now once its delivered, how do you get your subscribers to open it?
Well, that’s another story….one I am gonna tell right here.
First of all, you have to get them on your list to start with. Use a great giveaway item to entice people to get onto your list, then you want to send them really cool content that will help them out in getting started on the information you offered. I have some great giveaways right here and here and here.
My giveaway products are on making money, social media and blogging. So I send relevant emails to my list about these particular niches. I am not gonna send my wp list a list for recipes, they would think I am crazy.
Did you offer them a book or video on SEO and backlinking? Then your emails should be on SEO and backlinking.
So once you have some subscribers, you will need to send them some emails. In the FROM line of the email, please put your real name in there. I get emails from people that say Support, or FREE PLR, or Admin and I have no idea who these emails are from! Always put your name in the FROM spot. It not only lets subscribers know your name, they are more than likely to open your emails if they know who sent the email and you are also branding yourself.
Now let’s talk about the dreaded subject line….EWWW!
What are you gonna put in that subject line to make your readers want to open your email? If you are into any kind of make money online, then the people on your list are probably in to it as well and they know how this works and that email marketing is for selling things so your subject line has to rock!
So what kind of subject line shall you write? You have to put something relevant that leads to the email. You don’t want to say “Celebrity Robs A Bank!” And the email is about selling tires to your grandma. Keep it relevant to what’s inside.
One place to find some good subject lines is the trashy magazines that come out every few weeks. Yes, I know they are crazy and silly, but don’t you pick it up every now and then because you read a great headline? Those people who write those headlines are some of the highest paid copywriters in the world, so I reckon they know what they are doing when they come up with that craziness!!
Use some of the words they use in their headlines (not the aliens from outer space have exposed a leak in Britney’s Belly!) but you could use “exposed” or “leak” or something that is gonna catch your readers eye. Make a list of power words that get you results for your list. Use those words every chance you get but please make it relevant to what’s in the email. I can’t stress that enough.
Not Suzie Q’s list, YOUR List. Your power words may not work for someone else’s list, so make your own list.
Don’t be saying things like “your commissions are inside” that’s just wrong. If there are no commissions inside, don’t pretend there are.
I have had some great results with subject lines that say something along the lines of…. “So and so has done it again!” Those are the emails that get opened. Maybe they want to know who so and so is, or what they have done to warrant an email.
Now we all know, and as brutal as it sounds, we are doing the emails marketing to make money. Yep, I said it…we are all here to make money! I know a few people who have made some money off of me and I am a marketer, not just a consumer! I do want to become an expert in what I do. So I learn from other people who are doing things right in their online business. People who are making a living and know what works and what doesn’t.
Most people don’t care that you are “going to the gym, or going to pick up your mom, or just stopped to send this email before I go do something else” I mean really, you couldn’t sit down for a minute and think about what you are gonna write and if you are trying to sell me something, then at least take a minute to write an awesome email.
Copy and pasting affiliate emails is a good thing and a bad thing. Bad part is…..once again if you are trying to sell me something, at least take a minute to write something and not just copy and paste whatever the person has added to their affiliate pages. I get like 15 emails with the same subject line and copy.
Duh!!
Good thing is…..the emails that convert well are obviously converting well because you will get the same emails over a period of time and the big guys who are promoting the product kind of do all the testing for you. For example..if there is a product launch, let’s say….some million dollar launch and you want to get a piece of that pie…check out the leaderboard and make sure you are on the top 5 leaders’ email lists and see what emails they are sending, by day 2 they have already done their testing and are sending the best converting emails. Then you can grab that email and run with it. Be sure to add your own voice to it though!
When you are writing follow up emails, if you have an amazing widget to sell, then you need to educate your reader into buying your widget. Tell them a mini story of how it helped you or a how-to on something about the product and educate them into buying. Yes, it takes time. It takes time to learn what your readers want to know and it takes time to write the emails you are sending.
Internet marketing takes time. It’s not just a quick copy/paste life! So many people think it’s just a throw something up there and make money kind of deal, but it’s not. There is a lot to learn and it gets exciting.
Discouraging.
Frustrating.
Emotional.
Fun.
Welcome to my world!!!
And the last email I really hate to get and I see a lot of marketers doing it is the one that says …”check this out!” With a link that looks like this

NOT COOL!
I know that’s a tracking link. You probably know that too. I understand people want to track what’s going on, what converts and what sells. I am all for that. What I don’t like is the ‘check this out” and they don’t tell you what you are checking out! I’m not gonna click that link! I have kids!! Who knows what’s on the other side of it? Could be the greatest widget in the world, but I will never know cause I am not gonna click that link…
I hope some of my tips have helped you in your email writing and you will find that writing emails isn’t as hard and discouraging as it looks!
Have Fun!! The Aliens Do!!
