How Did I Get HERE??
I haven’t been here for a bit and first I want to say sorry. I know there are some readers who have been waiting for a post and I haven’t delivered. Forgive me! Maybe after this post, you will know why!!
<<<<little incentive to get you to read the whole thing!!
Some friends of mine are having a “challenge” to see if we can get 100 blog comments on one post. This is my post, so comment away!!
Have you seen any “about me” pages? You know, the pages where you can go to read about the blogs owner/writer? Well, I don’t have one. My readers and subscribers don’t know who I am. Everyone should have a page where their subscribers can get to know them and be able to know that the person writing the blog is a real person and not some bot or script. So here goes…
I am Lisa Hernandez (y’all know that) and I live in Southern California. I have 6 kids, 2 grand babies and 3 dogs (2 Cocker Spaniels and Terrier poodle). I have been married almost 9 years to my hubster
Tony. No, I didn’t have those kids in the last 9 years!! My youngest is 9 and she’s was given to me by the grace of God a couple of years ago. Love that little gal!!
My family calls me Roonie (and other variables, we are from the Midwest) Roon, Roonie-toon, Aunt Roonie, G-ma Roonie, etc…hence the domain name www.RoonieHernandez.com
Y’all can call me Roonie, but Lisa will be fine and will probably get you an answer faster!
K, so why am I here?? Or how did I get here?
On a fluke in 2009, I came across Twitter at a Joyce Meyer Conference. I had never heard of it and thought it was the coolest site out there! So many people and so many good links they were tweeting! I was in heaven; I am a news junkie and love the news from all over the world. Twitter had it all!!
I saw that people were tweeting about making money at home. I have tried most of my adult life to make money at home (Amway, Avon, Pampered Chef, Monavie, etc…) I have been working for years for someone else and I thought if I could make money at home from the computer…life would be good! I could stay at home with the kids and watch the dollars roll in! (BONK!! WRONG ANSWER! It takes time and effort to get started.)
I have no problems meeting new people on the social sites, so I thought how hard can that be? I can meet new people and make some money doing it! I got my first 900 Twitter followers by talking to people everyday and manually following them! Talk about some work!! (I have since automated!! Still get on there 2-3 times a week).
So I set out to get my own website…didn’t know a darn thing about them, called some website people and they wanted anywhere from 1200.00 to 3500.00 dollars to set up my site!! Well, THAT thought went out the window! I didn’t know anything about blogging or WordPress. (Gives all the newbies some HOPE!!)
Then I met a really cool guy, Adam Spiel of Pro Host Management (on Twitter, cause I talk to everyone!!) and he said I could go to his site and order a website package with hosting and everything for about 30 bucks a month! He was having a special on his packages and that would be the package for me! I told him I didn’t even have a site and he said no problem, we’ll get you one!
So I did! And I called him all the time asking him what to do next. He said get a squeeze page. I say “What the heck is a squeeze page?” He said write a report. I say “On what? I don’t know anything!”
My first site (which I haven’t done anything with in over a year) is www.cookingwithroonie.com (love to cook, hate to blog about it!!) Y’all can check it out, but it needs some TLC!
I didn’t understand what it meant to find a problem and fix it. So Adam suggested I get a mentor. OK so now I need a mentor! Well, crap! I am thinking, what the heck is a mentor??
Adam knew a guy by the name of Dean Holland from this big guru type guy, Alex Jeffreys. I couldn’t afford Alex Jeffreys at the time, and Dean had been through AJ’s class and was making it big! So I joined Dean Holland’s Starting With Marketing Class. That class taught me how to set up my blog and gave me a free gift to start building my list. OK, Cool.
But I need my own product. I can only give away someone else’s product for a short time.
I needed a product to attach a squeeze page to! My squeeze page! So in my Twitter and Google searching days, I found John Thornhill. Now, me being the diligent marketer I am… I Google EVERYONE!! So John Thornhill got Googled and Googled because his class is a little more than I wanted to spend (after buying all the crap that I thought was gonna help me out) and then he got Googled again! There is nothing I could find that say anything bad or scammy about JT. I love him! I even discussed the class with my hubby who doesn’t know anything about Internet Marketing and doesn’t care!
So I took the plunge! John Thornhill’s Masterclass! (You can too, for real cheap! 4.95 trial if you want to!)
In JT’s class, I am learning what it is to be a real Internet Marketer. The highs and lows, the good and bad. I am learning what to do and what NOT to do. I am also learning how to make my OWN product.
From a factory worker who wanted something more out of life. Like me. Like YOU!
Now that’s cool.
Wanna know where I’ve been lately? Taking care of kids, dogs and babies. When I get home from work every night, I don’t know what I will find. With 6 kids, every day has different challenges, fun and excitement! Some days are better than others, but everyday is AWESOME!!
Just wish I could get to the computer more often!!
What does your “about me” page say about you? Do YOUR readers know who you are?? Where you came from?? How you got started?
How did you get HERE?? Right here on my Blog?
Let me know!
Comments are cool. Oh and….Share the love!! Tweet, Stumble, Digg…whatever!

Hey Lisa,
I like the voice you have given to this post and I feel like I am talking to you when I read your article, you made it so interactive and personal.? Like you said, making money at home is the dream for most of people, my mom and my brother also tried Amway, Avon before but I think you know the result already. By creating our own online business at home, our life become more easier and more fun. I am a newbie here so I am working hard to reach my goal.

Great post Lisa. This could be your About page as it provides a lot of details into your life and how you’ve got to where you are. Very inspiring. Thanks for sharing it with the blogosphere but most importantly with the members from the blog commenting challenge. I’m sure they’ll appreciate you sparking more curiosity to your purpose now.

Yes, I agree totally with you that joining John’s MC is one of the best investments we have ever made! Even though I’ve been slacking and not following as closely, I’ve never given up on the course and looking forward to completing it soon.

Hi Lisa,
You sound like a seriously busy lady. Well done for making a start at earning yourself a living from home.
I too found John Thornhill through a recommendation and constructed a detailed Google search which led to the lights shining out of his backside so I too enrolled in his masterclass (last year actually) and have since got on to some big things online. I beleive finding a suitable and affordable is just the first step to making it online so you are definitely on the right track Lisa!
I’ll be back soon to see how your getting on!

Now this is what I call a REAL “about me” page.
6 kids!! I struggle with my two (…they’re called Monsters Inc and my son is the real Mike Wazowski!…)
You made a brilliant decision in getting a mentor. I got myself one and have never looked back.
I now see that it’s not so hard getting success, you just have to follow where success has been.
You sound a very busy woman, but I know that if you keep going, your family is going to be in for a very big treat.

Hi Lisa,
This is my first visit to your blog and I’m glad to learn more about you. Having that About page is a crucial part of marketing in the new economy. Without that personal connection, a blog comes off as just another phony marketing method. That’s a turn off to everyone.
Will you put this info into a new About page so that your viewers can easily discover that you are indeed a real person? With WP, you know it’s dead simple
I took my time creating my About page because I wanted it to be authentic & focused. It took a few revisions to get my true self to shine through, and at this point I’m happy with it. It tells my story as a person and as an internet marketer of over 10 years (the last 5 of them full time).
For anybody who is still putting this essential task aside, I want to encourage you to make it a priority. Let your awesome authentic self shine through! Share your story and see how much deeper you can connect with your tribe.
Peace,
Lauren

You can still make money with the Pampered Chef and other opportunities, but it relies on the same marketing concept as a blog does. You have to get out there and network, comment and link on blogs, and take part in forums, guest posting, and article writing. Other online opportunities can be just as fun as blogging.

I am sure there are a ton of people making money with direct sales. Millions. It’s just not for me!
Going out of the house to meetings every week, packing up the supplies, taking 4-6 hours of my day is not what I had in mind. That’s what got me started on the internet! I want to talk to people all over the world and get to know places and other things and hauling around a crap load of supplies just wasn’t doing it for me anymore!
Most Direct Marketing companies won’t let you advertise on the internet, cause they are a ‘people’ company. Sheesh! I like the ‘net and all it has to offer
Thanks for stopping by and taking the time!

Hi Lisa,
I finally got here!
Man what a work load this challenge is! I had no idea what my little bimbo comment could create! Oops on that one!
My hubby and bubba think my fingers are glued to the keyboard.
Got to throw my hat off to you! 6 Kids, 2 grandkids, plus working and taking care of the family and you still find time to learn internet marketing!
Do you suffer insomnia or what!!
This challenge has certainly created a buzz, yes it has created a bit, no let me correct that, a massive workload for all of us, however the amazing thing is that 100 people have come together all wanting to meet each other, inspire each other and help each other out.
That is truly humbling that a little bimbo comment could do that. I wonder what I will think of for an encore???
You right about the about me page. I always look for them when I visit a blog, and often if I can’t find one, I don’t make comment on the blogs unless I know the person through forums or training. I like to get to know the people I am visiting.
Another thing is a contact form. In my travels I have noticed a lot of bloggers missing those too which makes it really hard to contact them if I wanted to.
Had better get back to my blog hopping. I have only just started!
See you back here soon!
Cheers

LOL, yeah kids can always be a bit sceptical about that…
Earlier this year I was flying to LA and ended up sitting just a few seats away from the lead singer of a MASSIVE rock band who was just returning home from a holiday with his family…
The stewardesses were pretty excited (still professional) but got photos with him and were asking him a bunch of questions….
Eventually one stewardess turned to one of the singer’s kids and said “I think your daddy’s really cool!” and the kid just started laughing…”what’s so funny?” asked the stewardess… and after a few seconds the kid simply replied…”My daddy’s a goofball!!”
Thanks for your congrats on the wedding and also for checking out Awebextra!

Lisa, first, thanks for stopping by my site! I apologize for being so late in reciprocating…. I had to pop over and check out cookingwithroonie.com though and the grilling tips post made me smile! The hardest thing I had to learn about cooking was to leave it alone and let the food cook. Don’t fiddle with it unnecessarily. And you know what? Everything went off better!
The reason I smile though is I had to relearn that whole philosophy when I started marketing, building sites and developing products. Quit fiddling with it, let it cook and put it on the table (or the net) for folks to enjoy!
Thanks! John

Wow you are one busy gal I don’t know how you do it with all you have going on you must be running on a pure adrenalin rush. I used to say that I wish there were more time in the day to get things done but then again I would be wore out anyway.
Keep on keeping on Lisa.
Enjoy the Challenge.

Hi, Lisa
I too don’t have an “About me” page – after reading your wonderful post I feel I ought to head back to my blog and add one – after I’ve finished this 100 blog comment challenge .
As the white hare said to Alice “I’m late for a very important date”!!
Catch you soon

Hi Lisa,
Wow! I’m impressed with the work you’ve done on twitter. I get bogged down with so many different places to spend “social” marketing time, but I’m not giving up. Just need to figure out the best mix of activity and time. Nice to meet you! I like reading all about your online journey.

Hi Roonie Lisa
What an entertaining and well written post, ‘About Me’ pages can sometimes be a little dull but yours was brilliant.
I’m just passing through on my journey through the “100 Blog Comments Challenge” and although I’m a day late and trailing behind most contestants, the finishing line is in site.
Good luck with the JT course, I hope it takes you where you want to go.
Warm Regards
Lynn

Hi, Lisa,
I have to work on my about me page now. I have a great example on your blog here. It’s been great being involved with this 100 challenge. I have learned alot and made so many new friends! I am a little late getting here but better late than never. So glad to meet you!

This is my second go around to make sure everyone’s post gets a tweet for the 100 comment challenge. I have tweeted your post. I am #68 on Jacinta’s list. I wrote about the value of a positive mental attitude. If you didn’t leave me the requisite comment on my blog post, one will be appreciated!
Thanks,
Elizabeth

Hi Lisa
I agree, it’s so important to have an ‘about me’ page on your blog.
You need to be transparent if people are to trust you in IM.
I am surprised that some bloggers do not even reveal their surnames on their blogs, I certainly wouln’t buy any products off them.
Regards
Bill

Interesting post. It was really good to know where we came from. Mostly, of course we came from our humble beginning and looking back to those old good times was so overwhelming. You shared so much about your life, and I think that was good. People can easily gain their trust in you when they see your transparency and honesty in anyway.

Hi Lisa from the UK
It’s 5.29am, so I do know what you mean, and I thought “what the heck’s a Squeeze Page, OTO, SEO, etc. etc.). It makes you feel dumb, but you know you’re not. Here’s a relationship I use sometimes.
The extremes of knowledge and and attitude for newbies. You can be:
1. Naive: 2. Cynical, or (best) 3. Informed! But you’re not stupid. You just don’t have the information – yet.
I only have three (girlies), and they are my whole world (and I’m proud of that, and them), they teach me a lot.
If you pay me a visit, take a look at ‘Chaos’, and see if you can find Gerald, he’s lovely. Not what you’d expect in rural England. Oh, I have an About Me Page if you’re interested.
I’ll call back to see how your progressing, so keep pushing, and when you get to the top of the hill, sit down and watch it go.
Best wishes
Alan
PS. There’s only one ad on my site, but -
It’s excellent, I use it myself, and it’s free!
The 5 minute video will explain, with no Opt in too.
I would get paid $3 by Google if you use it, but you could do the same. Take a look.
Could help through Christmas too!
PPS. Did you say 6! Good grief.
