Watch Out For WORD!!
In week 4 of John Thornhill’s Masterclass we uploaded that Graphics to our blog. It was actually pretty easy following the step by step videos and transcripts. I have finally learned how to use FTP to transfer the files and upload them!!
One thing I think y’all should know is if you are writing to your blog in a Word document….DON’T! Word has some crazy coding (that you can’t even see!) and if you don’t know anything about HTML (like me, although I am learning!) the coding can mess up what your readers are seeing! Found THAT out this past week! DUH!
Notepad on the other hand is just a text document that has no back door coding and won’t mess up your blog. Dang! The internet and websites are just a little picky if you ask me!! Oh well, that makes it more interesting!
I normally use Firefox and my blog was just as cool as ever and a friend of mine went to go see how it looks. He uses IE and the sidebars and widgets were not showing up!! I kept looking for the problem thinking it was something I had done with the graphics, and it wasn’t! I deleted them; re uploaded them, looked and looked for something that I may have done wrong. I was talking to Paula over at the support desk and she pointed me in the right direction! She knew it was coding, I just had to find out WHERE???
How frustrating!
So I started going back through my blog posts to see if something was wrong (like I know anything about THAT!!) and I found a bunch of nonsense in one of my older blog posts. I deleted that and VIOLA!! It was fixed! So now I know I need to use Notepad and copy and paste to write my blog posts! Here are a few pictures to show you how!!
*Use notepad and don’t copy and paste directly to your blog. In WP there is a little box that you can use to paste to.
Then you can open up another little box that is for pasting. See how you get 2 lines of editing options after you click on the Kitchen Sink button?
Then you need to click onthe “T” button to open up a box that you can paste your Notepad document to .
Select all of your Notepad Document (or just hit Ctrl “A”)
Copy by using Ctrl “C” and when you open up the little Notepad box, hit Ctrl “V” to paste.
And there ya go!! You have pasted to your blog without all the crazy codes that can make your blog display(or not display) funny!!
When you have inserted your blog post into the “Edit Post” part of your WP blog, you can still edit and upload pics and make your blog fabulous!!
Easy, huh?
Hope yall are having an amazing day!! I know I am! =)

P.S. I have over here to the right a BLOG SET UP Guide that my very good friend Dean Holland wrote for us when we were in his Starting With Marketing class. It has very good videos about setting up your blog. You should check it out!!

Hi Lisa! Yeah, uh… I just learned about the, “kitchen sink” about three weeks ago. It was hiding right under my nose. That’s a great tip for the people that read you blog.
As for the notepad / word thing, I had no idea. You ROCK! Thanks for the awesome info. Keep it coming, and thank you.
Ed
Hey Ed!!
I have been learning quite a few little quirks about WordPress and how it works! Kinda cool for a non-techie like me!! Only because I hit a button to see what it does and BAM!! No more blog!! So I have to get in there and fix it!
A few weeks ago I had a pop up that was making me crazy. but I figured it out and now I know NOT to use just any ol’ plugin!
I have a few more you might not know….we should get together and you can teach me to Ebay and I can show you some WP!!
Take care and thanks!

Hi Lisa,
Great info shortcuts for WordPress, thanks, I like your blog.
Read your comment on John’s Planetsms blog and thought i’d say Hi as I’m doing the Masterclass too. Great course and easy for a simple guy like me to understand!
Dont know how you’ll find the time with that cute Baby, but they do sleep a lot at first (if you are lucky!) if my memory serves!
cheers and good luck
Richard
Well Hello Richard!
Thanks for stopping by and checking things out! I am really having a great time in the class! I am also very simple when it comes to HTML and websites. John is dong a fantastic job showing us how to do everything!
The baby is precious, but the good thing is that he is my Grandbaby, so I get sleep…it’s my daughter who is lacking in that area! I am a g-ma, so I get to spoil the little guy!! =)
Off to check out your blog….very nice to meet you!!
Lisa~
Hi Lisa, this is a superb post and the advice is spot on, last year in the MC we had all these problems. Always use notepad and it give wordpress less of a chance of cocking things up. Good looking blog and a useful and informative posting.
Rob
Hi Robert!
Thanks for stopping by!! You were in the MC? I am in now and I really like it. I like the fact that I am learning step by step how to set up everything!

Isn’t John Thornhill the greatest?
Gonna go by your blog and see what you have over there!
Talk to you soon!!

Hi Lisa, great post, well done this could really trip some people up if they can;t work out where the problems are coming from. Like you I’m enroled on Johns Masterclass Course. I’m loving it, he has such a relaxed approach. Your blog is great by the way and although I am a man I am a dad as well and to get away from business for a moment your post ‘What Angels Look Like’ is fantastic. Sometimes a few words say it all and the excitement you feel really comes through. Enjoy your Grandson and good luck with the course.
Graham
